DISCOVER MORE ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY

Before starting to talk about sustainable fashion, let’s talk about sustainability. Do you know what it is?

Sustainability is the ability to exist constantly. In the 21st century, it refers generally to the capacity for the biosphere and human civilisation to coexist. It is also defined as the process of people maintaining change in homeostasis balanced environment, in which the exploitation of resources, the direction of investments, the orientation of technological development and institutional change are in harmony and enhance both current and future potential to meet human needs and aspirations.

Tough, right? Let’s explain it easily:

Sustainability is about providing the best possible today without endangering the resources of tomorrow, applied in the broadest sense and in all kinds of resources: economic, material, human, social and environmental.

Now that we know what sustainability is, let’s see what sustainable fashion is and which benefits it has.

Sustainable fashion is part of the broader trend of sustainable design where a product is created considering the environmental and social impact that can have throughout its life cycle. According to Vogue’s May 2007 publication, sustainable fashion did not appear to be a short-term trend, it could last forever. Fashion designers are now reintroducing eco-conscious methods through the use of environmentally friendly materials and socially responsible methods of production.

According to the Earth Pledge, a non-profit organization committed to promoting and supporting sustainable development: “at least 8,000 chemicals are used to convert raw materials into textiles and 25% of pesticides are used to grow non-organic cotton. This causes irreversible damage to people and the biophysical environment, and also two thirds of the carbon footprint of garments will occur after purchase”.

Working on a sustainable way, even if you’re a little company or you are doing a change by yourself in your daily life, will help in a near future other people, other companies and factories to be more respectful, to join this movement and also will have a great impact on the environment. As a company, we choose sustainability over the “normal fashion” to be part of that change, to encourage people to join this revolution, to be more conscious about our planet and what we’re leaving for the ones who are coming. Our responsibility is to be as much respectful as we can, to contribute on a better life for all the workers in the fashion world, from the littlest to the biggest one and to life the present without forgetting our past and knowing there’s a future coming.
