Bali WISE
Bali WISE empowers marginalised women through skills education as a means to develop sustainable communities in Indonesia.
Why we need to act:
Women in poor Indonesian families are often deprived from higher education. Unskilled women get pregnant earlier, have a higher chance to contract HIV/AIDS and other diseases, and their salaries are usually 50% of the official minimum salary.
Bali WISE program:
Every year, Bali WISE has a target of 110 young women to complete their training and graduate. From 2007 until the end of 2020, Bali WISE has educated and skilled 1586 disadvantaged women. On average, 87% gets full-time quality employment with fair wages within three months after graduating.
ZeroWaste Center
ZeroWaste Center shares ecological knowledge to local people & environmental training to local company staff in order to improve local environments in Bali.
Why we need to act:
Indonesia is the 2nd biggest waste polluter in the world. Organics make up between 65-80% of waste going to landfill. Organic waste in landfills produce methane gas, which is 23x more potent than CO2. Only 9% of plastic waste gets recycled. Indonesia lacks proper waste separation management. As a result, the landfills are ever growing.
ZeroWaste programs:
ZeroWaste Training: Both local company staff and local people are trained to handle waste in a responsible way to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill or ending up in the ocean.
Kids Environmental Classroom: Indonesian public schools lack environmental education. Per class, 15-20 children aged 9-15yrs learn about plastic waste, waste separation, and love for nature.
ZeroWaste Soap: Every year, 75 tons of soap is thrown away by hotels in Bali. Used soaps are collected, up-cycled, and distributed to people in need.
